Groundwater is a natural resource that can be a privately owned well or high volume source of water for public water systems. An estimated 700,000 private water wells serve almost two million people in Pennsylvania with 20,000 new water wells being drilled each year. Select a properly certified well contractor to correctly construct or locate wells. Improperly constructed wells can have surface water entering the well and contaminate not only that particular well, but also the aquifer of the community. Improperly decommissioned or abandoned wells are also potential sources of groundwater contamination. Richard Raab
